How to be encouraged to get rid of stuff your don't need.

I've been waiting on this one to come out and I wasn't disappointed! In this wonderful book the author encourages the reader to declutter and organize your home leaving only those things you truly need and love. But the book is not just about getting rid of stuff....it's about having a more relaxed and fulfilling life as a result of it. She writes about a morning routine, the domino effect, creating order and enjoying luxury aka having empty drawers and more cabinet space. If you have "stuff" everywhere and feel totally overwhelmed by it, then this is the book for you!

Good ideas for a household with small children, and for people with very messy homes.

I wanted a book to help motivate me to de-clutter and get rid of extra stuff I have a hard time parting with.
This book was more about organizing. She talks a lot about buying all sorts of organizing boxes, adding hooks on walls to hang stuff, putting up shelves to put your stuff on, buying a hassock ect. If I were to buy all that organizing stuff, my place would actually be more cluttery. I would much prefer to get rid of stuff than to buy new organizing contraptions to store an ever increasing amount of stuff.
She does have some good ideas for beginners, such as wash your dishes every day, so you don't have a mountain of dishes; and buy a hamper to put your dirty clothes in, so you don't have dirty clothes lying all over the house. So people with really messy places may find some good tips.
She also has good ideas for organizing a household with small children.
For me, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing" was what I was looking for. It was written by a lifelong Japanese de-cluttering fanatic. Some of her ideas were kooky, and I didn't follow all her ideas; but it really inspired me to donate a bunch of bags to the thrift store.

A book that I really needed!

My first thought is that Melissa writes in a way that I feel she is talking directly to me! I have her book Love The Home You Have and it helped me improve the look and feel of my home so much. I even got comments on how much better it looks! This new book has charged me up to a whole new level. I am so bad about holding on to things that I really don't need. Examples-I remember who gave this to me, I remember how much this cost, I might need this some day. For some reason reading this book has unleashed a purging binge for me. Through Melissa's writing I feel it's finally time and OK to just let stuff go. I've tried other methods before, but this is the one that is really working for me!
